How to Prepare for School Exam

The key to passing your school examination is adequate and early preparation. Trying to cram everything into your head at the last minute will not do because it takes time to understand the subject thoroughly and to remember what you study.

One of the best way to prepare for the examination is to practise with past year exam papers.

Here are the reasons why it is beneficial to practice using past exam papers:

1. Get Familiar with the Level of Difficulties.
The standard of different schools differs. Doing well in a school exam does not mean you will do well in the national exam. So it is important to gauge the standard of your performance at the national level.

2. Get used to the kind of questions asked.
Get familar with the syllabus and the topics. By practicing with the exam papers, you will get used to the way the questions are crafted.

Study the trends of the exam questions over the years. Know what are the popular questions and try to guess what are the likely topics.

Spend more time to study the topics that are more popular and likely to appear again.

3. Condition yourself to the pressure of thinking and working fast in an examination environment.

This means you have to learn to stay focused, and think a lot more for a longer duration. Practice will strengthen your mental stamina to last the whole duration.
4. Pace yourself on how fast you need to complete all the questions in a given time.

Estimate how much time you need to allocate to each question. If you can complete the question by the estimated time, skip it and go to the next question.

One of the common mistakes is that students spend too much time trying to solve the difficult questions and left with little time to complete other questions.
